Stress has always been an inevitable part of human life throughout the ages. However, modern-day factors such as fast-paced and dynamic lifestyles, information overload, and penetration of social media into every aspect of our lives, have made the effect of modern stressors continuous and relentless. Thankfully, the lived experimental wisdom of our ancestors – Ayurveda, has some solutions. The stress management center in Canada follows the core foundation of Ayurveda of protecting health by focusing on three pillars of health, i.e., aahara (food), nidra (sleep), and brahmacharya (control over senses).
The need for balancing the mental, emotional, and spiritual status of an individual along with their physical health to maintain one’s Swasthya- or ‘the entirety of health’ forms the central theme of Ayurveda. Balancing the ‘tridoshas’– i.e. vata, pitta and kapha is essential to achieve that goal. This can be done through Ayurvedic therapies and medications, supplemented with food habits, exercise, and sleep regime.
Some of the wonderful therapies that we advise in the stress management center are-
- Abhyangam– Whole body massage with warm, mildly aromatic, medicated herbal oils prescribed after careful assessment of the body constitution and imbalances in the body of an individual. This improves the blood and lymph circulation in the body, muscle tone, and skin elasticity while inducing sleep and relaxation.
Shiro-abhyangam (head massage) is advised to calm the nerves. This helps in relaxation, maintaining scalp health, and growing lustrous and healthy hair.
Pada-abhyangam (Foot massage) is done to reduce stress and anxiety and helps in grounding.
- Swedanam- A steam of herbal decoctions foment the whole body. This detoxifies the body through sweat, thus maintaining a balance in the body. Easy movements of the joints, pain relief, reduced muscle spasms tension, and lightness in the body are a few of the benefits of swedanam.
- Shirodhara– One of the most important therapies for stress management. Warm medicated oils or herbal decoctions are slowly and steadily poured over the forehead of the individual. This helps induce a state of meditation and helps balance tridoshas. It also improves memory, senses, and sleep quality.
Managing stress effectively is possible through the holistic approach of Ayurveda. Proper assessment is provided based on the body constitution and Dosha imbalance – which leads to a therapy that is tailor-made for the individual to include dietary and lifestyle modifications.
