The extract also neutralizes the catabolic effect of cortisones, due to its high vitamin C. According to the International Journal of PharmTech Research, "systemic use of Cissus quadrangularis in rats caused complete restoration of the normal composition of bone, after fracture in four weeks, while the controls required six weeks to heal.

In another study, in osteoblasts bone cells, cissus quadrangularis was able to increase the basal secretion of IGF-1 and IGF-II, the growth factors required for bone growth. These effects may be related to the estrogenic properties of Cissus quadrangularis.
